"Yoga is a toolbox of scientific practices relating to awareness, intention, energy cultivation and healing"
Sophia is passionate about the effects a holistic yoga practice can have on healing, and encourages students to transform their lives through the practice of simple body, mind and breath tools. Moving from a place of lack and pain, to one of abundance and health.
Sophia’s Yoga journey started in 2010. Experiencing the benefits the practice had on healing her own childhood trauma, she started her teaching journey in 2015.
During ten years in Asia, Sophia shared space with, and learned from experienced Yoga teachers encompassing multiple paths of wellness. She felt an instant affinity with Eastern philosophy and its many practices, specifically mindfulness to work on reversing negative chatter, and Asanas; postures and movement to clear trapped emotional energy from the body.
A practicing Yogi for 15 years, and teaching internationally for the last 9 years, Sophia studied Hatha Yoga with Yoganath Andiappan of Anahata Yoga, in 2015, and studied in India for her 300 hr TT in 2019. Teaching pay-as-you-wish classes in Hong Kong parks, which she affectionately dubbed ‘yoga busking’ was how her teaching journey started. Her path led to teaching at studios in HK Yoga Bam Bam and HKore, the award winning Five Elements Habitats, the Centre for Sports Excellence at HKUniversity and Soho House, Hong Kong. After leading her first class at The Secret Island Party 5 years ago, she fell in love with festival Yoga and taught at festivals in Asia -Shi Fu Miz, Iris: Your Escape, and Equation Festival, Vietnam. For two years, Sophia organised weekly DJ yoga classes at internationally reknowned nightclub, Mihn Club to create sensory experiences for her students. Currently residing in Norwiichand teaching at Hot Pod Yoga and The University of East Anglia.
At the start of the class, Sophia will guide you to focus the mind on the present moment helping to create body awareness, relax the nervous system and calm the mind. Simple breathing exercises are practiced to improve breath control.
The mind is a powerful tool when used with the intention to be present and to heal. Intentions allow the student to move with awareness on deeper levels of emotion and sensation, bringing more knowledge and understanding of the subtle body; the Nadis or energy channels, and Chakras or energy centres.
e.g. In today’s class we set the intention of connecting with the Sacral Chakra (abdomen) to clear stagnant energy to enhance our experience of creativity and sexuality.
Physical postures chosen to stretch, strengthen and release toxins and bring focus to the internal body and the present moment. Always warming up safely, and preparing the body to mobilise and move through the postures of the class.
*Modifications are given for beginners and advanced level students
Final relaxation. Sophia will guide you to cultivate a deep awareness to the body and breath. Body scan meditations, breathing exercises and Mantras are offered to students during this important pose which help to reduce the symptoms of stress manifested in the body and for students to take a moment to stop, listen and reset.
